Addressing Food Insecurity & Promoting Hunger Relief
For more than 12 years, Schnitzer’s National Food Bank Initiative has worked to address urgent community needs to combat hunger and food insecurity. Through longstanding partnerships with local food banks across North America, Schnitzer employees and customers contribute financial and nonperishable food donations, which are matched by our Company and distributed to food banks.
Since 2010 the Schnitzer National Food Bank initiative has donated over $3.6 million to local food banks, providing approximately 10.8 million meals to people experiencing food insecurity.

Humanitarian Aid
In addition to our primary community investment programs, in 2022 Schnitzer provided relief efforts to the Ukrainian people impacted by the war with Russia by donating $100,000 to support the Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund. The donation was split evenly between Save the Children, a nonprofit founded in 1919 that works in more than 100 countries to safeguard children’s rights, and World Central Kitchen, a nonprofit founded by world renowned chef, José Andrés, that provides meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises.
Schnitzer employees also collected more than 650 pounds of medical supplies, blankets, and dry food for donation to Meest, a Ukrainian logistics company with warehouses in several U.S. states that distribute supplies to Ukrainians in need.
